Financial Statement Excel : Why are some cells highlighted in Orange, how to get rid of those?

The New excel export of Financials now includes cell references for Drill-down figures and validation

In Excel, the figures in the Balance sheet and P&L link to the corresponding totals in Notes, and from "Notes", the figures are linked to "Details".

There are also hidden columns F and G, which give the corresponding figures computed by the system (by rolling up the figures to the respective level).

Wherever the formula-based figures do not exactly match the system-computed figures, the cells are highlighted in Orange background. This is to alert the user of a possible error before s/he finalizes the financials.

This could arise for the following reasons:

  1. Inconsistency between data entered in multiple screens. E.g. Fixed asset ledgers' Total closing balance not exactly matching the Netblock.
  2. Rounding adjustments (which is done in the auto-computed figures that are in the hidden columns, but excel formula-references cannot do rounding adjustment automatically)
  3. A particular data scenario not handled correctly in the system. (A bug)

To investigate and correct the error,

Please unhide the hidden columns (Typically F and G) and understand the cause of the error.

Option 1: Correct the error at a lower level (Notes/details) and adjust the formulae to make the right figures appear at a higher level (Balance sheet / Profit and Loss statement) - Highly recommended in case the error is not due to rounding adjustment

Option 2: Copy the figures from the hidden column to the visible column (Recommended in case the mismatch is because of rounding adjustment)

Option 3: Not recommended - Clear conditional formatting rules
